چکیده

A solution is proposed for the management of multi-resolution vector data in a mobile spatial information visualization system. The client–server architecture and the models of data and transfer of the system are presented first. The aim of this system is to reduce data exchanged between client and server by reusing data already present on the client side. Then, an extension of this system to multi-resolution data is proposed. Our solution is based on the use of increments in a multi-scale database. A database architecture where data sets for different predefined scales are precomputed and stored on the server side is adopted. In this model, each object representing the same real world entities at different levels of detail has to be linked beforehand. Increments correspond to the difference between two datasets with different levels of detail. They are transmitted in order to increase (or decrease) the detail to the client upon request. They include generalization and refinement operators allowing transitions between the different levels. Finally, a framework suited to the transfer of multi-resolution data in a mobile context is presented. This allows reuse of data locally available at different levels of detail and, in this way, reduces the amount of data transferred between client and server. r 2004 Elsevier Ltd. An Incremental Strategy for Fast Transmission of Multi-Resolution Data in a Mobile System

In this chapter, a model for management of vector multiresolution geodata in a client-server framework is proposed. Its particularity is to take into account the constraints related to mobile context (limitations of storage capacity and transfer rate). In particular, the amount of data exchanged between client and server can be minimized by reusing the data already available on the client side ...

Understanding the roles of different stakeholders influencing the use of mobile phones to access agricultural information: A Case of Kilolo and Kilosa Districts, Tanzania

The study investigated the roles of different stakeholders influencing the use of mobile phones in accessing agricultural information in Tanzania. While information is becoming an important ingredient in agriculture, farmers in Tanzania suffer the problem of lacking access to agricultural information. Promisingly, mobile phone technology has become the most valued infrastructure which gives peo...

A Context-aware Architecture for Mental Model Sharing through Semantic Movement in Intelligent Agents

Recent studies in multi-agent systems are paying increasingly more attention to the paradigm of designing intelligent agents with human inspired concepts. One of the main cognitive concepts driving the core of many recent approaches in multi agent systems is shared mental models. In this paper, we propose an architecture for sharing mental models based on a new concept called semantic movement....
